How many decades has it been since Hazel Barr inaugurated Day in the Country to whip up energy for the November Service Club Gala? It wasn’t until The Peninsula Hotel Chicago opened twenty years ago that she was tempted to move her show in town as Day on the Terrace—and on the Terrace it was, always on the hottest day of the summer. After years near heat stroke, Hazel was convinced to transfer the fabulous first Monday of August luncheon and fashion show indoors to the Peninsula Ballroom, with great success.

This year the show struck another milestone when Service Club President Sherrill Bodine, with Co-Chairs Tracey DiBuono, Jean Antoniou and Sharyl Mackey, opted to change the address again to Tom Kehoe’s marvelous The Geraghty—with equal success.

The centerpiece of Day on the Terrace is always the fashion show with Service Club members and local media figures modeling designs from Chicago’s finest stores.
